District Awards

Information about the upcoming Eastern District Court of Honor and Dinner.

First is a list of previous Award of Merit winners.  It is a Who’s Who of past and present leaders of the Eastern District.  All our scouts and unit leaders benefit from a program wealthy with committed volunteers.  These people have shown dedication to the scouting program, Scouting spirit, and outstanding leadership.  For that we salute them all.  Please let them know how much we all appreciate their hard work on our behalf.

We will also shortly have the Nomination Form for the District Award of Merit as well as the nomination form for the other district awards. Stay Tuned.

Project Polar Bear

Steve Amstrup with polar bear cubs

The Memphis Zoo is always looking for ways to work with the Boy Scouts to help promote conservation.  To that end, they have a great program that we want to pass on to interested Scouts:  the Project Polar Bear Contest, organized by Polar Bears International (PBI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the worldwide conservation of the polar bear.  This contest challenges teenagers to create projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their home communities.  The winning team of young adults will head up north to Canada to see polar bears in the wild!

The Memphis Zoo, your local PBI Arctic Ambassador Center, is responsible for spreading the word about this conservation project, and they could sure use your help!  They are looking for teenagers, ages 14-18 years, who want to make a difference in their communities.  You can find more details about this wonderful opportunity here, and you can email Leslie Dobbs with any questions you may have.  You can also visit Polar Bears International at www.polarbearsinternational.org.

School Night Schedule

EaDi Labs in conjunction with Siano Enterprises Wordwide announce the publication of the all new

EASTERN DISTRICT SCHOOL NIGHT SCHEDULE

Available for your perusal and download here.  Much remains yet to be scheduled, but half a loaf’s better than two in the bush.  As new information becomes available and more slots are filled, this document will be updated.  Not, like, once an hour or anything, but you know, kinda often.

Program Preview August 12th

Program Preview is an annual gathering of unit leaders and district leaders to look at the upcoming year.  It will be at Grace Celebration Lutheran Church, 8601 Trinity Rd in Cordova on Thursday, August 12, at 6:30 PM.  Box dinners available by reservation only, $5,  RSVP ASAP.  All troops, crews, and packs are encouraged to turn out in droves [that means bunches, city boys].

Program Preview is staged like a business convention with exhibitors, displays, handouts, and and refreshments.  Displays confirmed at press time include: Commissioner Service, Training, Advancement and Recognition, Camping, Activities and Civic Opportunities, Finance, Membership, Hobbies and New Merit Badges, and others. The evening should provide you with a wealth of  information to take back to your unit.  Don’t miss it.

Here’s the flyer.

Contact Bob Greenwald to register or for more info.
